When it comes to well-educated and skilled personnel, the Stena Sphere
companies, many with their roots in Gothenburg, have a lot to thank
the colleges and universities in Gothenburg for. For the Stena Sphere
to continue to be able to compete for qualified personnel, Gothenburg
has to be seen as an attractive city with a rich and varied cultural
life and good schools. Stena supports culture
and research in Gothenburg in many different ways:
The Sten A. Olsson Foundation for
Research and Culture
The aim of the foundation is to administer and distribute funds
from Stena AB and the Olsson family. Its goal is to promote scientific
research and development primarily in architecture, economics, ships,
finance and property activities, trade, medicine, the environment
and technology as well as all art and culture-related subjects and
Christian societies.
Innovation Centre at Chalmers University
of Technology
Stena Center - through the Sten A. Olsson Foundation for Research
and Culture, the Olsson family and Stena AB made a donation to Chalmers
University of Technology in Gothenburg in 1997 for the renovation
and restoration of Holtermanska Sjukhuset (Holterman Hospital) which
is located close to the university. The area is called The Stena
Center.
At the Stena Center, the Chalmers Innovation Foundation
develops seed companies from Chalmers University of Technology and
Gothenburg University and spin-offs of companies in the Gothenburg
area. Here, entrepreneurs are offered business development advice
and training in premises with good services, good contacts with
Chalmers University of Technology and an entrepreneurial and innovative
environment close to venture capital. The Stena Center houses some
30 seed companies.
Göteborg Museum of Art
In May, 1994, Stena AB donated funds to refurbish the Göteborg
Museum of Art. At the same time a new gallery, the Stenasalen, was
built next to the entrance.
During the years donations have been made to the Opera,
Gothenburg school of Economics and Business Administration, Universeum
and Röda Sten.
ÖIS
Örgryte IS, or ÖIS as it is popularly called, is Gothenburg's
oldest football club. Stena is one of its main sponsors.
