We operate a fleet of five ultra-deepwater drilling vessels and one semi-submersible vessel, with all our Drillships benefitting from fully integrated Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) systems. This enhances our ability to meet complex drilling demands while upholding the highest standards of environmental management and corporate responsibility.  Cohesive, part of Bentley Systems, is a global leader in enterprise asset management (EAM), advisory services, and data management solutions. Part of its work is to empower asset-intensive industries to improve reliability and achieve operational excellence.
Stena Drilling and Cohesive worked together to deliver the first implementation of a Maximo Application Suite aimed at enabling work in an offline environment. This went live in April 2025 and saw an upgrade from Maximo 7.6.1.3, including the implementation of Cohesive’s patented Data Utility (CDU) and Data Replication (CDR) applications to ensure a smooth upgrade despite the offshore environment.
At this time Stena Drilling had seven Maximo environments, one, its central instance, hosted at our Aberdeen Headquarters, and six remote instances on our offshore vessels, which were used in a sometimes-offline state). CDU helped eliminate downtime during the upgrade and data migration process, while the CDR application supports major Maximo upgrades for offline environments.
As a result, there were no interruptions to Stena Drilling’s operations at any point during the upgrade. This successful project was recognized with the ‘Best Maximo Connected Workforce’ Award, rewarding the efforts of both Stena Drilling’s Maximo team and Cohesive.

Landing a project this size is all about having the correct people that both have subject matter expert knowledge and the insight of how the business is operating. Every part of the business impacted by the change needs to be part of the process and development team. With this project, we were fortunate to have an awesome team.
Stuart Wyness CFO:
We are using a non-bespoke (albeit feels wonderfully bespoke) solution which allows us to benefit from version upgrades and avoid obsolescence issues.
The adoption of AFE workflows in Maximo is literally saving hours and has reduced the issue of duplication, and inaccuracies.
Graham Brunt CTO:
MAS certainly proved to have a lot of inbuilt features which are fairly straightforward to unlock and has enabled us to avoid customisations that make future updates problematical.
